Drottningholms Slottsteater Welcome to our summer wedding at Drottningholm in 2010. In Mozart's LA FINTA GIARDINIERA there's a stink of scandal. Everyone lies to each other as well as to themselves, to the accompaniment of impassioned music in an opera put together with a large portion of humour. A co-production with the University College of Opera, Stockholm. We meet DON GIOVANNI during the last twenty-four hours of his life, when everything goes terribly wrong. Long live liberty! he sings, as he wields the champagne. But the question is, liberty for whom? Swedish star Carl Johan Loa Falkman creates the aged aristocrat. There is a very special magic about Drottningholms Slottsteater – this living 18th century theatre, included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List – situated as it is in the English park close to the residence of the Swedish royal family. The theatre’s wooden stage machinery is still being used, and performances take place with reproductions of the original sets. After a hundred years or so of oblivion the theatre was rediscovered in 1921, and since 1946 festivals have been held in the summer with opera and ballet from the Baroque to early Romanticism. Operas by Cimarosa, Mozart, Handel and Gluck, amongst others, as well as the Swedish Gustavian composers of the latter part of the 18th century, are frequently performed. EMAIL dst@dtm.se FACTS
